What happens when a custom coachbuilder like ARES Modena transforms one of the most prestigious luxury cars into something greater? ARES Modena has taken a Bentley Mulsanne Coupe and made it their own.

The ARES Mulsanne is inspired by the Bentley Brooklands of the 90s

Taking vanilla cars and turning them into Frankensteins of transmissions, oil and gas is what many tuning companies are doing. Some are mainstream and have entered the public sphere of the car world. But to do that for a near-perfect work of art requires more than that. And that’s where ARES excels.

ARES knows something about the past. Highly adept at building specialized vehicles, they have a unique portfolio. Some of Ares Design’s previous work includes customizing the 1964 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, the Porsche 964 Targa, and Land Rover Defenders. But this Bentley Mulsanne tops them all.

ARES said they wanted to turn the Mulsanne into a classic Bentley, giving it a Brooklands-style look. Bentley Brooklands was Bentley’s flagship car in the mid-90s , intended to replace the original Mulsanne. With a luxurious, classic style, Brooklands stands out with its boxy design but still maintains a sophisticated style.

ARES’ website says, “[Mulsanne] combines the elegance of the original with a sporty and youthful look, making it a real standout on the road. The car has undergone transformed the structure using traditional vehicle building techniques, giving it a sleek and aerodynamic appearance.”

New angles define the exterior, bringing it back to a generation whose homage aimed to recreate. The sleek, fastback features redesigned C-pillars to accommodate the larger doors and provide a seamless transition into the tailgate and wings. The new wheels also work well together, giving the new Mulsanne a modern touch with its iconic chrome look.

While the exterior looks like a true top-notch, the Mulsanne’s interior is a different ball game . Bentley represents luxury in a way that not many automakers can compete with. The brand is quintessentially British, creating an ethos of nothing but the best. Simply put, the name of the game is luxury, and ARES is trying to expand on that which is a difficult hill to climb. However, the wheelwright did it. Based out of Modena, Ares have added their own Italian spin on a British classic, a duplication to be sure but still an impressive achievement.

Inside, custom front seats are trimmed to match the rest of the interior. ARES says the entire design of the car has been designed to have a sedan feel instead of a coupe exterior. No doubt an interesting combination of body types but it works very well. Personifying an Italian heritage, the modifier decided to add a sporty touch to the Mulsanne’s luxurious style. On the outside, that means side skirts, a diffuser and a subtle body kit. But for the interior, that means nothing more than new upholstery and three modern appliances.

ARES Modena is not a new game either. Bentley is the product of a series of excellent projects in the past. The aforementioned Corvettes, Porsches and Land Rovers all played an important role in getting the Mulsanne to its current position. ARES even embarked on creating its own supercars with a unique plan. The company plans to build a supercar called the S1 as well as a roadster variant also known as the S1 . Bentley comes from a coachbuilder with many years of experience and has no plans to close shop anytime soon.

The Mulsanne takes a different approach to the regular variant offered by Bentley. While Bentley aims for class and luxury, ARES tries to give it an Italian style. Perhaps the biggest goal is to bring it back and turn it into a coupe, emulating the big coupes that Bentley offered in the 90s. Most enthusiasts consider that period as the golden age by Bentley and we can’t argue with that. Cars like the Brooklands, Turbo R and Arnage turned the brand into the famous car manufacturer it is today.
