The lowland forests are home to this brilliant blue bird with a nose strangely shaped like an umbrella. Males have commas behind their eyes and black stripes on their wings. Females have black markings and are generally a softer green color. overlaps with the Pipe’s broadbill and the Borneo whitehead, both of which are more common at higher altitudes. When observing female blue broadbills, note the absence of any black on their plumage, the clear lines in place of spots on their wings, and their larger size in general. Whistle softly and happily, often in succession.
