The small honey badger still makes lions afraid when confronted

The lion is known as the “king of the grassland”, terrifying all creatures, but does not always win. In many cases, lions are even outmatched by small animals.

The proof is in the video below, when a honey badger, perhaps less than 1/10 the size of a lion, unilaterally fought back, and even caused the enemy to flee.

Filmed in Etosha National Reserve (Namibia), the video opens with a honey badger attracting the attention of an adult male lion, while he himself is unaware.

When the lion approached, the honey badger was “startled” to realize. However, it did not run away in panic, but suddenly became extremely aggressive and reckless.

The animal opened its mouth full of teeth, then rushed forward as if it wanted to “eat it alive”, making even lions fear it. At this time, the honey badger slowly ran away, but was always ready to turn back to defend itself whenever the lion approached too close.

The animal’s ferocity caused the lion to only run after it for a while, perhaps out of pure curiosity, with no intention of taking down its prey. After a while of chasing, the lion seemed to realize that he could not compete with this “crazy guy”, so he decided to give up.

Honey badgers are small in size but are not easily bullied.

The honey badger ( Mellivora capensis ) is a species of mammal, belonging to the Weasel family. They have a body length of 55 – 70 cm, and are less than 30 cm tall.

Although not large in size, honey badgers are at little risk of being hunted in the wild. The secret lies in the honey badger’s very thick skin, especially the skin around the neck, which is up to 6 mm thick, allowing it to effectively defend against fatal bites.

Besides, they also possess short, but exceptionally sturdy legs, along with sharp claws, which can be used as effective weapons, in addition to sharp teeth.

In some cases, the honey badger’s recklessness and ferocity also help it repel large enemies. That’s when the spirit and will become “weapons”, helping the animal win even before going into battle.

Most notably, they have the ability to resist venom very effectively. Filmmakers about the animal world have witnessed honey badgers being bitten by vipers and green snakes (the two most venomous snakes), causing it to go limp and think it would die. However, just 2 hours later, the honey badger woke up and was still healthy as if nothing had happened
