The most special and rare breed of cat, the lynx, is being protected

Considered one of the rarest cat breeds globally, the Serengeti cat is striking. A relatively recently created cat breed, the Serengeti cat emerged from the crossbreeding of Bengal cats with Oriental shorthair cats. Famous for its charming appearance, it resembles a small leopard, with large round ears, long legs and shiny spotted fur. Originating in the 1990s, the breed has been carefully developed to produce a domestic cat that bears a striking resemblance to a wild wildcat while still retaining a friendly and affectionate temperament.

The rarity of the Serengeti cat can be attributed to the limited number of breeders and the specific breeding criteria required for their production. Although recognized by some cat registries such as the International Cat Association (TICA), the breed remains relatively rare when compared to more popular breeds such as the Persian or Siamese.

It is important to realize that perceptions of rarity are subjective and can vary based on location and personal perspective. Other rare breeds include the Turkish Van, Sokoke, and Peterbald, each with distinct characteristics and limited numbers.
