The Dutch referee was permanently suspended for lifting the trophy with the championship club

A referee in the Netherlands showed obvious negative signs, forcing the country’s Football Federation to impose a penalty.

Referee Jan Smith has just been permanently banned by the Dutch Football Federation (KNVB) for his controversial actions in the match between St. George and SV De Valken last weekend.

According to local media, this 61-year-old referee was assigned to officiate the match between St. George and SV De Valken. Mr. Jan Smith allowed up to 15 minutes of overtime, and also issued a red card to send 3 players on SV De Valken’s side off the field.

With 8 people, SV De Valken let the goalkeeper of St. George, Dave Laan scored the winning goal in overtime, thereby winning the championship

A few days after the match ended, fans discovered that Mr. Jan Smith was present at the championship celebration with St. George. Here, he sang the team’s traditional song and even raised the Dutch 4th Division championship trophy with the players.

SV De Valken immediately filed a complaint with the Dutch Football Federation. With clear evidence, the KNVB has made the decision to ban this 61-year-old referee from holding the whistle in all tournaments.
