A Detroit-based photographer and performance artist, Liz Cohen, transformed this 26-horsepower, plastic vehicle into a communist monster. NO Kidding, 26 horsepower!!! The car was now powered by a Cheʋy El Camino engine and the body split to reattach the chassis using hydraulic collectors.

The result is a “Trabantino,” a Trabant that extends the entire length of El Camino at the push of a button.

The car was created by Liz Cohen as part of an exploration of DIY culture and the playful fusion of identities, and had a first place and special recognition awards in the Main Street Showdown Supershow presented held annually in New Mexico.

When she took on the project, Ms. Cohen was not a gifted equipment person, but in the process she was an ecologically literate fabricator, with considerable welding skills. – Besides turning a lemon into a hotrod, Liz Cohen also started dieting to become a bikini model. She was formerly a photographer and during the eight-year project, she took the time to hybridize herself by taking photos, similar to those found in auto magazines, herself in a bikini.

After doing most of the hard work on the car herself, she was able to showcase herself not only as a bikini-clad model but also as the auto mechanic behind the scenes. after the project. You can see more of Liz’s work at Art Gallery Salon94 in New York City.
