Strange: Newcastle players would rather receive a red card than a yellow card

Due to a strange ‘loophole’ in the Premier League rules, Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle) is encouraged to earn a red card if he accidentally receives a yellow card in the match against Tottenham tonight 13-4.

Newcastle Club could “benefit” if Bruno Guimaraes gets a red card instead of a yellow card this weekend thanks to a “crazy” mistake in the Premier League’s rules. Specifically, the Brazilian star received 9 yellow cards before the match against Tottenham and this was Newcastle’s 32nd match this season.

According to Premier League regulations, any player who receives 10 yellow cards in the first 32 matches will automatically be suspended for two matches. With this regulation, if Bruno Guimaraes receives another yellow card in the confrontation with Tottenham, he will be suspended for 2 matches.

Therefore, the Newcastle coaching staff encouraged that if Bruno Guimaraes “accidentally” received a yellow card, he should continue to commit fouls to receive another yellow card and be expelled. If he does so, Guimaraes will only be suspended for 1 match because of the red card and his number of yellow cards will still only stop at 9.

Although he did not want his player to fall into this ironic situation, Newcastle fans humorously “advised” Guimaraes to intentionally receive a second yellow card if he had to receive a yellow card in this match. They even advise that the ideal time to “ask for a card” is at the end of the match.

One Newcastle fan wrote: “What the hell! That’s crazy! A ridiculous flaw of the Premier League. So if Guimaraes gets a yellow card, wait until the dying minutes and get a second yellow card.”

Another fan continued: “If I were Guimaraes, I would intentionally receive a second yellow card if the referee accidentally gave me a yellow card. It’s a strange vulnerability and he should exploit it.”
