Recently, the former Dutch international, who was once a favorite student of coach Erik Ten Hag at Ajax, Quincy Promes, was sentenced to 6 years in prison for drug trafficking.

Promes was sentenced to 6 years in prison for allegedly smuggling more than 1,350 kg of cocaine. According to Voetbal International, the prosecution asked for a nine-year prison sentence but he was instead sentenced to six years in prison.

The court document stated that Promes “participated in the drug trafficking case despite being a high-paid football player and having great influence with fans. This suggests that the defendant attempted to illegally increase his wealth (and possibly increase his reputation in the underworld).”

The player is currently playing for Spartak in Russia and was therefore not present at the hearing in the Netherlands and also denied all charges. The player’s lawyer said he would appeal, while Promes himself revealed that he “will not return to the Netherlands in the near future”.

The former Ajax star and his accomplices planned to transport two bags of drugs weighing 650 kg and 713 kg into the Netherlands but were discovered by the authorities at Antwerp port (Belgium). If successful, this total of 75 million euros worth of banned goods will be sold on the streets of Amsterdam.
