Ahmed Refaat had a heart attack while competing. The incident caused him to stop breathing for more than an hour.

The incident occurred during the round of 16 match of the Egyptian championship, when Modern Future met Al Ittihad.

Refaat was introduced into the field in the 61st minute of Modern Future’s 0-0 draw against Ittihad Alexandria in round 15 of the Egyptian Premier League.

In the 89th minute of the match, Ahmed Refaat lost consciousness and collapsed on the grass. The 30-year-old player was immediately given first aid by doctors and he was hospitalized in critical condition. He is currently in the intensive care unit and is being closely monitored by medical experts.

Modern Future announced: “Ahmed Refaat’s heart stopped beating for more than an hour, despite all the efforts of medical staff at Zamzam Hospital. After that, the player’s heart rate gradually improved. However, Refaat’s health condition is not stable so he still needs special care.”

“We call on the media to respect the personal life and health of the player and hope that Egyptian football fans pray for Refaat to be safe and sound soon,” Modern Future concluded.

Refaat debuted for the Egyptian national team in 2013, but it was not until December 2021 that he made his second appearance for the national team. Since then, this striker has been regularly used. So far, Refaat has made 9 appearances for the national team and scored 2 goals. This player mainly plays from the bench, to maintain strength for pillars like Trezeguet or Salah.

At club level, the striker born in 1993 won the National Cup and Egyptian Super Cup with Zamalek.
