Ronaldo was the most harassed at Euro 2024

Before an enthusiastic fan jumped from the stands in the final round of Group F, Cristiano Ronaldo became a target from the hotel, the training ground to the Euro 2024 competition field.

On June 26, after Portugal lost 0-2 to Georgia, Ronaldo quickly looked towards the stands, raised his hand in greeting, and continued down the stairs to enter the tunnel. Suddenly, a fan jumped from the stands at a height of about 3 meters, close to the position of the 39-year-old superstar. A security guard reacted very quickly, running from behind to block Ronaldo’s face, preventing a dangerous accident from happening.

The Portuguese captain was stunned by the situation, then raised his arms and gestured in confusion at the actions of the fans.

“Ronaldo is very lucky to be safe and healthy,” said German newspaper Bild . “It’s hard to imagine what would happen if a fan jumped out of that stand and hit Ronaldo.”

The incident occurred just three days after the European Football Federation (UEFA) announced an increase in security in stadiums for the remainder of Euro 2024. Before, at least six fans jumped into Westfalen to try to reach Ronaldo , in the match that Portugal won 3-. 0 against Türkiye on June 22.

Coach Roberto Martínez warns that the players are in danger in the Euro Cup. The Portuguese Football Federation (FFF) must write to UEFA and the German Football Federation (DFB), to request stricter security measures during matches.

UEFA once again announced beefed up security, warning that violators will be banned from the stadium for the remainder of Euro 2024 and will face criminal prosecution in Germany.

Not only in matches, it is also necessary to increase security in training sessions and in the hotels of the Portuguese team. The European press warns that admiration for Ronaldo is exceeding the limit.

According to the Bild newspaper, around 300 fans regularly gather in front of Portugal’s headquarters and three people who tried to jump the fence to enter were arrested. A fan injured his hand while trying to climb a fence because he did not have tickets to see Portugal’s training session: 8,000 tickets were sold out in one minute. Security prevented at least 13 fans from running onto the field.

The Klosterpforte hotel reception receives between 50 and 100 calls a day asking about Ronaldo’s autograph or an exception in the private area of Portugal. UEFA had to build an additional security fence hundreds of meters long and 2 meters high to control fans. Before that, the first security fence was torn down in a wide area so that fans could look inside the hotel or try to jump over the fence.

UEFA also reserved a special option for Portugal on the day of the match. Consequently, the bus carrying Ronaldo and his teammates can get as close to the field as possible instead of having to walk the prescribed distance.

Ronaldo also made a lot of effort to interact with fans when he spent some time before lunch signing autographs, in a fixed area near the hotel fence. In the victory over Türkiye he appeared friendly when taking photos with 10-year-old Berat, who broke the fence to enter the field. However, the 39-year-old striker also showed his limits when he became upset with the next crowd who approached him in the same way, interrupting the match.
