Ronaldo returned, Al Nassr failed miserably in the C1 quarterfinals
Returning from suspension, superstar Cristiano Ronaldo could not shine in the match between Al Ain vs Al Nassr in the quarterfinals of the first leg of the AFC Champions League.
After being suspended in the Saudi Arabia tournament, Ronaldo reappeared when Al Nassr played at Al Ain in the quarterfinals, first leg of the AFC Champions League on the evening of March 4. The first opportunity came for Ronaldo in the 6th minute, when he leaned back and hooked the ball wide of the post.
Al Ain plays counter-attack defense quite well. In the 28th minute, Kaku had an accurate shot but the goal was not recognized. In the 44th minute, Rahimi escaped extremely quickly on the left wing and defeated Ospina to open the score. This was also the only goal of the first half.
Entering the second half, Al Ain continued to be the more proactive team and was also the team that created many clear scoring opportunities. They had three times to put the ball into David Ospina’s net but were all denied due to offside.
Ronaldo’s most notable ball came in the 53rd minute, when he took a shot with his right foot from about 7 meters away, but the ball went over the crossbar. In the 81st minute, CR7 cushioned the ball from 5 meters away but was blocked by the opponent’s goalkeeper.
The second half had 15 minutes of extra time, but Al Nassr could not score a goal.
Despite losing 0-1 to Al-Ain in the first leg of the quarterfinals, Ronaldo and his teammates still have hope of advancing when they play at home on March 12.
On the way out of the field after the match, the home crowd continued to chant Lionel Messi to mock Cristiano Ronaldo. This time, the Portuguese player replied “See you in Riyadh” and raised his finger.
