Ronaldo once again affirmed that his career plans go against the earnest wishes of his mother, Dolores.
The Portuguese player will turn 39 in two weeks (February 5, 1985) but still maintains excellent form. Ronaldo has set a record for scoring the most goals in the world in 2023 with 54 goals in 59 appearances for both club and Portuguese national team.
Ronaldo’s mother, Dolores, has a profound influence on her son’s career. Mrs. Dolores always wished to see Ronaldo wearing the Sporting Lisbon shirt again before hanging up his shoes.
Ms. Dolores once shared in 2020: “Ronaldo must return to Sporting Lisbon. If I had the choice, Ronaldo would have returned to Sporting Lisbon. He also loves watching his old club’s matches. I once told Ronaldo that before I die, I want to see my son return to Sporting Lisbon.”
Sporting Lisbon is the cradle of Ronaldo’s growth before this player joined MU, Real Madrid, Juventus and now Al Nasr. When Ronaldo was a 12-year-old boy, Mrs. Dolores herself took her son’s hand to take the entrance exam to the Portuguese club’s academy.
Although Dolores wishes to see her son return to Sporting Lisbon, that is not in Ronaldo’s plans.
In an interview on Record, Ronaldo affirmed: “I want to stay at Al Nassr this year and next year.
“I feel happy in Saudi Arabia. That’s what I want the most. And when I turn 40, let’s wait and see what happens.
“If it’s okay, I can play until I’m 41 or 42 years old. And returning to play in the Portuguese championship is meaningless. That cannot happen.”
It can be seen that Dolores’s greatest wish will not be realized by Ronaldo.
