The red-bearded bee-eater, known scientifically as Nyctyornis amictυs, shares many physical characteristics with other members of the bee-eating family. They are attractive birds with vivid colors, long tails, sharp wings and curved bills. Although larger than most other bee-eaters, their green appearance is distinguished by their flushed face and characteristic red beard that extends down their throat. Additionally, they have very striking orange eyes.
