Pep made his students angry again with his decision to substitute
Pep Guardiola admitted that Phil Foden showed his attitude when he was taken off the field, in Man City’s 3-3 draw against Real Madrid in the early morning of April 10 (Hanoi time).
Foden scored a super goal from outside the penalty area, equalizing 2-2 for Man City in the 66th minute in the Champions League quarter-final first leg at Santiago Bernabeu. About 20 minutes later, coach Pep Guardiola withdrew the English player to make room for Julian Alvarez.
That was the time when Foden was hurt after a collision with a Real Madrid player. However, the 23-year-old striker was seen looking dissatisfied on the way off the field.
“He has a slight pain,” Goal quoted Pep Guardiola as saying. “He was grumpy with me, and asked why I made a substitution. That means Foden is fine.”
The Spanish coach commented on the match: “Great goals from both teams. They were dangerous in transition and could have scored more goals but we controlled the game very well. One of the key points is emotional stability. Seize the good times and maintain your sanity when faced with the bad moments.”
“Facing Real Madrid at the Bernabeu is never easy. Real is the king of this tournament. They went through many difficulties but still overcame them. So I don’t know what could happen. The team that advances will be the team that plays better and can impose the match in the second leg,” Guardiola added.
In this match, Real finished 14 times, two more chances than Man City. In the first half, “The Citizens” had many awkward moments and let Real constantly threaten the goal. After the break, the home team at Etihad Stadium played better.
The match ended with a draw of 3-3. Man City holds a slight advantage when they get to play the quarter-final second leg at home.
