Young Manchester United fan Anderson Pollard was recently declared completely cured after battling cancer. During his treatment, he often thought about his football hero, Alejandro Garnacho, so the club arranged a meeting for him with Garnacho.

Anderson, seven years old and from Redditch, Worcestershire, was discovered to have a rare form of non-Hodgkins cancer in May last year. Initially, he was told he had diarrhea.

But when he returned to see the doctor soon after, he was taken to the hospital for a CT scan. Scans showed he had multiple tumors in his stomach, which meant he had to undergo months of harsh treatment such as chemotherapy, bone marrow aspiration and multiple surgeries.

During his care, the doctors used an emergency question to see how conscious he was and Anderson’s question was: “Who plays with Ronaldo and Messi?” His answer was always “Garnacho”. Man United had to gather these two people together as soon as they heard the news.

Anderson had to face many difficulties, even more difficult for a child. He tried his best and on September 18, 2023, he was finally informed that he was cancer-free. The United Foundation helps many hospitals and children’s groups in the area, but they had to reach out to Pollard’s family.

His father, Sam, said in the video that the boy could only think about one thing while at Birmingham Children’s Hospital: his hero. That’s why he was so excited when United called to arrange a visit to the Carrington Training Complex on his behalf.

Little did he know that it would be more than just a field trip and that Garnacho himself would surprise him. When he gave Anderson a ball and signed his shirt, the Argentine called him a “warrior” and presented him with the Manchester United Courage award for 2024. That’s not the end of the emotional scenes; Anderson and his family were also given tickets to watch the Red Devils play live before his surprise appearance.

When West Midlands Police heard he had rung the bell to let everyone know it was safe, they called him into their office to surprise him with tickets to the Spurs match. His mother Debbie, father Sam, brother and sister also went with him. Great tool.
