OFFICIAL: Fans are allowed to use banned substances at Euro 2024
England and Scotland fans and the rest of the world can smoke cannabis at Euro 2024, it has been announced, following a significant change to the rules at the upcoming European Cup.
Germany will host the 17th European Championship (Euro) tournament from June 14 to July 14, with matches taking place in Berlin, Munich, Dortmund, Stuttgart, Gelsenkirchen, Frankfurt and Hamburg to name a few. cities across the country.
It is noteworthy that just a few months before the opening match between Germany and Scotland in Group A at the Allianz Arena, cannabis was legalized in the country.
As the BBC reports, parliamentarians in Germany have passed the law, which now means smoking cannabis in public will be legal on April 1.
The law was introduced allowing citizens to possess 25g of cannabis in public places for those over 18 years old.
However, in private, the limit is 50g and a maximum of three plants are allowed.
German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach has pushed for change in an effort to cut down on contaminated cannabis and taking money out of the pockets of organized crime gangs. And finally on Friday, the country’s parliament spoke up and achieved a result of 407 votes out of 226 votes, including 4 abstentions.
Fans traveling to Germany to watch the upcoming Euro tournament may be allowed to use cannabis freely, however use near schools and sports stadiums will still be banned.
The law must be signed by the president and the government will launch a campaign highlighting the dangers and effects of this once-banned plant. There were initially plans for pharmacies and licensed stores to sell cannabis, but that was eventually scrapped.
Instead, cannabis social clubs will be popular venues, although each club must have a limit of 500 members and on-site consumption is prohibited.
If all goes well, cannabis sales could be legalized. But there are also reports that opposition conservatives will completely abolish the law if they are elected to power next year.
