Leicester fired their head coach for having an illicit relationship with a student
The “Foxes” leadership announced the termination of the contract with women’s team coach Willie Kirk after accusations that the strategist had an affair with a player on the team.
On March 29, Leicester City announced Kirk’s dismissal after an internal investigation. “Coach Willie Kirk was determined to have violated the team’s code of conduct, so serious that his position on the team had to be reconsidered,” Leicester’s home page reads.
Guardian revealed that Kirk was suspended from his job earlier this month, after information appeared that the coach had an affair with a female player on the Leicester team. Since then, the “Foxes” have lost all the time in the English Women’s National Championship.
Coach Kirk joined Leicester as Director of Football in July 2022, then moved to lead the women’s team at the end of the year. He helped the club successfully avoid relegation last season.
The scandal at the Leicester women’s team took place only a month after the team’s former coach, Jonathan Morgan, was also accused of similar behavior. Mr. Morgan was fired when the Sheffield United women’s team discovered that he had an affair with a player while leading the Leicester women’s team (2014-2021).
Mr. Morgan later admitted the incident to The Athletic. The mother said the female player was only 17 years old when she started her relationship with coach Morgan. She accused this military leader of taking advantage of her daughter’s ignorance.
Meanwhile, Mr. Morgan emphasized that the girl was 18 years old at the time the two were close. In the case of Coach Kirk, Leicester still keeps the identity of the female player involved in the incident confidential. However, Telegraph revealed that this is a player who regularly plays in the first team.
