The striking concept uses a carbon fiber chassis and a ‘freewheel’ engine to create a 1-to-1 power-to-weight ratio.

Koenigsegg has come up with a concept showing what a future entry model for the Swedish supercar maker could look like.

Named Raw, after its Koenigsegg-owned designer, the striking three-seater combines an automotive fiber passenger compartment with an advanced three-cylinder engine from partner company Freeʋalʋe .

This means it weighs just 700kg while producing 690bhp, giving it a one-to-one power-to-weight ratio – a feat previously put into production by Koenigsegg in 2015 with the Agera car, 1341-hp One:1.

The Freeʋalʋe engine debuted earlier this year in the 1700 horsepower Gemera hybrid, a grand touring coupe and Koenigsegg’s first four-seat vehicle. In that application, it made 600 horsepower thanks to a pair of turbochargers. ‘Free ʋalʋe’ means that the camshaft is replaced by an electronically controlled actuator to open and close the ʋalʋes.

Inside, the Raw has the same three-seat layout as the McLaren Speedtail, with a central driving position for control and optimal drivability and a rear passenger seat on either side.

The car’s body is more angular than previous Koenigseggs, with a retro-futuristic front end that includes a wraparound strip of lights. However, the brand’s traditional wraparound windshield and double canopy are still present. It also incorporates active aerodynamics, with what the company calls a “flowing architecture” and a “jet fighter-inspired articulated rear diffuser.”

A 0-62 mph time of around three seconds can be expected.

The Raw was created by Finnish designer Esa Mustonen as his graduate thesis, under the supervision of Sasha Selipanoʋ – head of Raw Design House and head of design at Koenigsegg since October 2019. last year, after working at Genesis – and was approved by company founder and Koenigsegg boss Christian.

Koenigsegg is currently receiving a significant investment as Sino-Swedish electronics company NEVS, which was founded from the ashes of Saab and owns the old Trollhättan factory, bought a 20% stake for £130m last year.
