Kпoxville Zoo is adding a new look to its lion pride

On Wednesday, the Tennessee Zoo announced on Facebook that Amara, the African lion, gave birth to a healthy female cub on June 16. The cub is the third cub for Amara and her partner Upepo.

The Knoxville Zoo shared that the newborn lion, which has not yet been named, is “healthy and thriving.” Amara is receiving postpartum treatment for complications she experienced during the birth process.

The zoo added on Facebook that Amara was still showing signs of labor after the puppy was born. Zookeepers examined the lioness and discovered she had a stillbirth in her cervix.

“Veterinarians from UTCVM-University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine quickly performed the emergency process. Although the campaign was successful, Amara was slow to restart afterward, and subsequent tests diagnosed it as an accurate error,” Zoo Kпoxville wrote on social media.

“Amara is currently being treated with medication and is showing improvement. Her care team is optimistic that they can simultaneously map with oral medications, fluid therapy, and voluntary care,” the facility added.

The zoo issued its own positive blurb, letting followers know that Amara was “brighter, acting more like her human self and providing appropriate care for her cubs” after a recent check-up. This is her most.
