Leicester City faces a record point deduction in the Premier League, in the context that coach Enzo Maresca is about to move to Chelsea.
After finishing the Championship and winning promotion, Leicester City are facing a difficult summer. The club look set to lose manager Enzo Maresca to Chelsea, while they could also be the latest club to suffer a huge points deduction for breaking financial rules.
Telegraph sources estimate the penalty for the Foxes could be up to 15 points. If that happens, Leicester will be the team with a record point deduction in the Premier League, more than Portsmouth Club in 2009 (9 points deducted).
In March, the King Power Stadium team was charged with breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Code for a period of three consecutive years.
The Foxes then responded by releasing a statement confirming they had opened legal proceedings against the Premier League and Football League, before posting their account of the 2022/23 season, revealing a loss of £90 million.
In another development, with Maresca likely to leave, Leicester will have to recruit a replacement. The Telegraph has listed former Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter and West Brom’s Carlos Corberan as two possible candidates to be included in the list.
On the evening of May 28, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Leicester’s Maresca has reached an agreement to lead Chelsea next season. Blues sporting director Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart are said to have flown to Marbella for face-to-face talks.
