The Premier League organizers can ban Newcastle from registering more goalkeepers, even though Nick Pope has just been injured.

Even though Nick Pope has to retire for a long time, Newcastle still has 3 goalkeepers including Martin Dubravka, Loris Karius and Mark Gillespie. According to Sportbible , “Magpies” need to receive permission from the Premier League.

Normally, a club will be allowed to supplement personnel in an emergency, specifically when only one goalkeeper is registered to play. The rules in the English Premier League also clearly state that teams are not allowed to make changes to the squad list during the tournament without permission from the Organizing Committee.

Last season, Newcastle recruited Loris Karius but did not let this goalkeeper play in the Premier League. The former Liverpool star only played in one Carabao Cup final with Man United, so this is not considered a change in the squad list.

As for Newcastle, coach Eddie Howe is supporting the plan to use Martin Dubravka. This goalkeeper once played for Man United on loan, but was called back earlier than expected.

“I saw Martin playing excellently when he played with Man United at the Carabao Cup. At the team level, he also had a brave performance. Dubravka is a hardworking guy. His experience will help us,” Newcastle head coach said.
