Robinho is the latest Brazilian soccer star to be sent to prison for sexual assault against women.
Brazilian players are always famous for having “many talents and many disabilities”. The high income combined with a free lifestyle causes many football stars from the land of Samba to “go too far” and fall into legal trouble. The latest is the case of Robinho, a former player of Real Madrid, Man City and AC Milan.
Robinho had to accept a 9-year prison sentence
The 40-year-old former football player was recently arrested by Brazilian police at his home to serve a 9-year prison sentence. In 2013, Robinho and five other Brazilians were accused of group sexual assault on a woman at a bar in Milan (Italy). Four years later, the Milan city court concluded that the former Brazilian player was guilty. Robinho applied for an appeal in 2020 but was rejected by the Italian Supreme Court in 2022.
Robinho’s lawyer did his best to continue extending the sentence. However, Brazilian authorities did not accept this. The former Man City player will have to attend another child custody hearing. After that, Robinho will be transferred to a prison in Sao Paulo state to serve his sentence.
In addition, many other famous Brazilian players are also involved in scandals related to women. Neymar or most recently Antony have both been accused of assaulting women. However, both players were exonerated later. As for Hulk, a former Porto player, he became famous in a unique way when he married… his wife’s niece, causing the press to waste a lot of ink.
Before Robinho and Dani Alves, Ronadinho had to spend more than a month in prison at Asuncion prison in Paraguay for… using a fake passport in 2020. This is quite surprising to fans because of his popularity. Ronadinho in the football world is on a global scale.
During about 32 days in prison, Ronaldinho celebrated his 40th birthday and even participated and won the tournament for prisoners with 5 goals and 6 assists. The reward for the former Brazilian star and his teammates was a lavish barbecue party afterward. After paying a fine of 200,000 USD, Ronaldinho and his brother were deported to Brazil.
