Auction of BMW Z1 1990 from Artcurial with irresistible ancient and elegant beauty

The BMW Z1 looks like no other production model from the brand – before or since its introduction in 1987. Now you have the chance to own a pristine example for just 65 miles (104 km) on the clock. The car is equipped with a rare aftermarket hardtop. Auction house Artcurial expects the machine to fetch between $108,442 and $162,663 in France on February 2.

BMW launched the Z1 at the Frankfurt Motor Show and began production of the egan in the fall of 1988. It was the brand’s first two-seat sports car since the 507 in the 1950s. The development team created created when they had the opportunity to build a new roadster. The car’s sharp lines looked unlike any other BMW model at the time. The ʋehicle also has plastic exterior panels and trick doors that retract into the body. Beneath the skin is a layer of galvanized steel.

High sills and retractable doors allow occupants to lower the panels while driving to enjoy a more open driving experience. There aren’t too many roadsters that have this kind of exposure to the world. The closest we can think of is Caterham Seʋen or Ariel Atom.

The hardtop that comes with this Z1 is especially rare. Wiesmann Auto Sport only produced around 500 of them, according to fan site Ʉмwz1.co.uk. They all have heated rear windows and leather or suede interiors.

BMW produced 8,000 Z1s by the time production ended in June 1991. The brand’s next roadster was the more significant Z3 for the 1995 model year.

The latest BMW Z1s are old enough that Americans can bring them into the United States under the 25-year rule, which allows people to import classic cars into the country. According to Hagerty Insurance, one in good condition costs $61,400 in the US. This one, thanks to its low mileage and hardtop, will certainly sell for much more.
