The new Ferrari 296 GTB has incredible wind-breaking speed

Behind the engine, before reaching the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, there is a disc the size of a frying pan. That is the electric motor. Powerful, it produces 165 horsepower. Just one, where the SF90 has two more, each responsible for the front wheels. The 296 was rear-wheel drive only. That means this – I’d say base level – mid-engined Ferrari with 819 horsepower. Just eight years ago, the holy trinity of hybrid supercars didn’t have much more to offer.

Monteblanco circuit. The race cars are yellow, bearing the heavy stripes of the Assetto Fiorano package. It’s a £25,920 option that saves just 12kg and adds just 10kg of front-end downforce. You get the lightweight Lexan engine cover, but the main ‘benefits’ – if you think so – are fixed-ratio Multimatic dampers and Michelin Cup 2R tires (instead of PS4S).

I can find the error. Some. The leather is slippery and I wish the seat swiveled under me more. The infotainment is annoying, especially when CarPlay takes up the entire screen. Don’t blame me for not testing the hi-fi.
