Mostro Barchetta Zagato Powered by Maserati is a continuation of the long-standing partnership with Trident’s Home, which began in 1931 with the Maserati 8C 2500 Sport Zagato and, after ten prestigious realizations, was followed by in 1957 when the Italian Atelier produced the Maserati 450S Coupé Zagato.

The special edition, originally named “The Monster”, was commissioned and built by Stirling Moss with the valuable assistance of aviation expert Frank Costin, for participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Championship the most important global endurance.

“We decided to name the project based on the first reaction of Sir Stirling Moss, who said: “Beautiful as a beast” when he first saw the Maserati Coupé.

Its design is signed by Norihiko Harada – Vice President of Zagato Design, reminding us of the perfect proportions of the barchetta that the Maserati brothers once made for Maserati and then OSCA in the 50s.

With a carbon fiber chassis, no electronic traction control system and front axle-mounted gearbox – typical of racing cars – the Mostro Barchetta shows its best abilities on the track, while at the same time causing excitement in all types of streets.

Details such as the two seats and the small wrapped windshield recall the lines of a speedboat racer. The Mostro Barchetta will be available in only five exclusive models, and nearly all are designated for a limited number of Zagato’s collector customers.

The new Zagato signature entry, inspired by the classic historic car of Le Mans, is an evolution of the Mostro Zagato Powered by Maserati. Launched at the Villa D’Este event in 2015.

Mostro and Mostro Barchetta want to join different generations: as in the 50s, the hearts of classic car victims were attracted by the image of the Maserati Mostro and the 450S, today hearts are fascinated by these new version.

Zagato is racing towards the future conscious of its heritage DNA, a perfect combination of our current technology and its historical know-how, which has characterized Milan Signature since year 1919.

The new Mostro Zagato Barchetta is made of a carbon fiber MonoCell frame, combined with an innovative composite structure for the windshield frame that houses the fuel tank, exhaust system, rear suspension and differential.

The Maserati 8V 4.2 NA engine with a capacity of 420 CV, is mounted in the front center position for optimal weight distribution (50-50) and the Mostro Barchetta, weighing only 1,200 kg with a Weight/Power ratio excellent, bringing “racing” driving experience with outstanding performance.

The front and rear suspension systems have a double wishbone architecture with push rods acting on the spring/shock absorber adjustment system. The racing gearbox is a 6-speed sequential manual clutch and is attached to the engine block.

Alloy wheels with single lug nuts, front tires 255/40 R19 and rear tires 295/35 R19. Mostro Barchetta is equipped with large disc brakes with 6-piston AP Racing brake calipers at the front and 4-piston at the rear and 19-inch alloy wheels.
