Liverpool breathed a sigh of relief when this star got injured

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez will not attend the upcoming two friendly matches of the Uruguay national team due to a minor injury.

According to the schedule, Uruguay will play friendly matches with Basque and Ivory Coast on March 24 and 27 in Bilbao (Spain) and Lens (France). Coach Bielsa has finalized the list for 2 training matches to prepare for Copa America 2024.

Notably, on the Uruguay team’s list there is no Darwin Nunez. The Liverpool striker missed these two matches because of a problem after losing to MU in the quarterfinals of the 2023/24 FA Cup. The news that Nunez did not join the national team made Liverpool fans worried because they thought the 24-year-old striker could be seriously injured.

However, according to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, the former Benfica striker only has mild pain and will recover at Liverpool within the next 10 days. Thus, Nunez will be ready for Liverpool’s busy schedule after the international series.

At that time, Liverpool will play 3 matches in the Premier League within 1 week. Specifically, they will face Brighton (March 31), Sheffield United (April 5) and MU (April 7). Since the beginning of this season, Nunez has been extremely impressive.

The Uruguay international scored 17 goals and had 14 assists on all fronts. Darwin Nunez’s numbers in the previous campaign were 15 goals and 4 assists. Statistics show that Nunez is the Premier League player with the fourth most goals on all fronts (scoring + assisting) after Haaland, Mohamed Salah and Ollie Watkins.

The former Benfica star’s impressive performance helped Liverpool win the League Cup, reach the quarterfinals of the Europa League and is competing fiercely with Arsenal and Man City in the Premier League championship race.
