A 10-year-old bull and his calf slipped down a concrete drain amid heavy rain yesterday in Nakhoп Nayok, central Thailand.
A storm soaked the grass, causing the two to fall into a 7ft deep hole.
The tornado made it impossible to retrieve the pair, so veterinarians mobilized a cherry picker to pull the giant mammals out of the sewer.
But after the mother hit her head and froze, her life was in danger.

The park’s chief veterinarian, Dr. Chanпanya Kanasarak said: ‘It was impossible to hold the baby while the mother was nearby so we gave her three doses of anesthetic but she moved toward her child before it flew over her head.’
She added that the mother ‘regained a sense of calm after being stimulated by both me and the baby.’
Park police feared that the mother elephant would call for help from a nearby herd of 30 elephants if they tried to save her baby, so she called a veterinarian.

Luckily, the mother elephant woke up.
Park wardens and vets left the scene to allow the jυmbos to repopulate – and will be joined by a large herd.
Excited rangers and emotional veterinarians saw the mother and her baby disappear into the woods.
Dr. Chanпanya added: “Despite the obstacles, the mother still does not leave her child.
‘This heart-wrenching experience will be one of the most memorable rescues we have ever undertaken.’
The veterinarian said both mother and baby were safe and she thanked everyone for the “hard work of all parties involved in the rescue.”
There are an estimated 4,000 elephants in Thailand.
About half of these live in captivity in animal shelters, zoos and sanctuaries. The rest could go to roaming wildlife parks.
