The origins of the inspiring transformation can be traced back to the 1950s, when a young man named Anthony Baмford, who is now Lord Lord and one of the most respected industrialists in Britain, adopted family company JCB, came across a Rolls-Royce 20/25 being used in an automobile factory. This encounter had a profound impact on him, and after sixty years it served as the driving force behind the creation of the ultimate paddock support.

John Blatchley’s original design had a significant influence on the British company. Unlike other modified Silʋer Shadows that had rough cuts on the rear of the front doors and incorporated a solid sheet metal panel, Clark & Carter chose to keep the rear lights intact.

New metal segments were created to maintain the Shadow’s sleek appearance where the rear doors used to be.

According to Clark, building the pickup and fold-down tailgate posed a bigger challenge: “To keep things light and user-friendly, we made the rear panel out of aluminum. The previous version had a rather unattractive rear bumper, so we took a standard part and cut it down to resemble a corner piece.”

Clark & Carter’s team carefully planned the layout of the storage units in the bag, seeking advice from the JCB team’s mechanical engineers, Billy and Bryan. The challenge was to create a stylish rear storage space that also functioned as a practical support vehicle. They aimed to keep the design simple, but as they went about it, the plan became more complex

The final product is a testament to the craftsmanship of a fine furniture maker: the left side of the cabinet features a complete Rolls-Royce tool set and jack, all securely fixed at the place.

The accessories have a distinct nautical feel to them, as Clark & Carter shop workers scour the Internet for hours to find old catches in stock (some are handmade in-house). The edges of the device are covered with sturdy teak wood for added protection.

To make the Silʋer Shadow confirmed to function as a support vehicle, the side compartments were carefully designed to accommodate the team’s equipment and spare parts. Fixtures on one side hold toolboxes, racing gear and smaller accessories, while the middle section features recycled panels allowing more space to carry larger items such as axles.

Since the support frame will carry heavy loads, the rear suspension system must be modified. Adjustable springs have been installed to ensure that the weight will be properly supported.
