What the heck is GM doing with this third-gen Camaro test car? Our spy shooter caught this bright yellow 1980s ship out east leaving General’s Milford, Michigan, recently headed for the production grounds – manufacturer’s sign and all – and decided to follow it.

“We kept a close eye on the Camaro for a while, counting shift patterns and noticed it was using a six-speed manual transmission,” our eagle-eyed detective reports. Early versions only had a high-speed manual. We also learned that the engine note sounds like a small modern key, not a dotted unit.

Upon closer inspection, we noticed that the Camaro has a bulging hood, a GM Performance Parts billboard, a roll cage, a quad exhaust header, and what appears to be a completely worn-out cassette single. all of Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again ’87” on Dash. (Okay, maybe not a cassette.)

The third generation Camaro debuted in 1982 during the worst of the pony car era in terms of power, and it lasted until 1992. Although it may not have been the beloved F-Body Camaro like the best, but models like the IROC-Z , Z28 , and 1LE haʋe been gaining ground of late—and they certainly left plenty of rulers around the country when they were new.

This isn’t the first time GM has used an ’80s Camaro for testing. In 2014, a third-generation Camaro was spotted with a prototype of the sixth-generation car before its launch. Could this be a clearly disguised powertrain for the tenth-gen Camaro? Or is it something else? Your guess is as good as ours. All we know is that we suddenly felt the urge to go listen to something by the Puppet Master.
