According to its owner, a giant “ferocious bull” that terrified the driver was actually a “lovable, friendly old boy.”

The huge animal, named Rex, was captured by Tina O’Neill after it burst through a field fence and onto the road in front of her.

Farmer David Lewis was soon alerted and brought him back to his fields in Water Eaton, Wiltshire.

However, while the dog may seem “big and fierce”, David’s wife, Liz Webster, said her blonde bull is actually very friendly.

“There was another bull in the field across the road,” Liz said. The last two bulls wanted to fight each other.

‘So he (Rex) tried to cross the road to fight the other bull.

‘But he is an older boy, although he is big, he will be beaten by a smaller cow.

‘So he’s roaring at that bull. They growl at each other, and sometimes it happens in the middle of the night.

‘We get a lot of people walking through here because we have ten footpaths here.

‘We used to raise cattle and people were used to it, we often had to stop to transport cattle across the road. It’s a shame because it’s part of our British culture.

‘But that’s something people need to keep in mind, because they’re still farms around these rural roads.’

Liz, who lives on a farm, has owned Rex for about seven years.

“Bulls are generally much friendlier than cows,” she said.

‘Especially with cars, but it depends on the breed. But everyone is afraid of bulls.

‘You can scratch him. It looks big and fierce, but you wouldn’t want to get in its way when fighting another bull.

‘You have to be a little cautious around them, but they are generally quite friendly with their owners.’
