UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has noted that Newcastle is the next club in England that needs to pay attention to the issues of breaching the League’s Financial Fair Play Act.

The UEFA President surprised him when he accepted Newcastle’s transfer and revealed what he expected from the Magpies.

Newcastle United has spent up to 400 million pounds in the past few years, but the Magpies have stayed away from particularly luxurious contracts and UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin had to warn the newly rich man of Mist football.

Aleksander Ceferin first praised Newcastle United as a good example when he was surprised that the Magpies did not pour money massively into the transfer market to buy superstars.

Speaking to The Guardian, Ceferin said: “In England, I think a club owned by Saudi Arabia is a good example of how you should work. Because Newcastle don’t buy superstars but they qualify for the Champions League. I was very surprised. I expected them to buy a lot of players for the new season, but that wasn’t the case and they played very well.”

“However, the note is still very clear, they need to do a lot better than that, it’s not easy, and Man City is another typical example. If PIF cannot do well, they will have to suffer extremely heavy penalties not only from the Premier League but also in Europe, I am quite sure about that.”

Newcastle have spent up to £400 million on transfer fees over the past few years, but the St James’ Park team has not behaved like the so-called “richest club in the world”.

Instead, Newcastle has sought to bring in players who have spirit, enthusiasm and put the team first, while also targeting talents who can develop with the Magpies in the future.

Getting these deals right is even more important due to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations, helping The Magpies limit losses and only lose £105 million over a three-year period. Eddie Howe himself admitted last week that Financial Fair Play had significantly changed the way clubs do business.
