Their long-haired and easily shed fur companions

Maybe you’re curious about the best non-shedding dog breeds because you or someone in your family is allergic to dogs. Or perhaps robot vacuums and lint rollers simply can’t handle Fido’s fluff on everything and you want to wear fur-free clothes!

If you’re thinking you need a hypoallergenic dog, it’s important to note that there really isn’t such a thing. All dogs produce some protein that contributes to allergic reactions – the most common is Can f 1, which is commonly found in urine, saliva and dry skin debris called dander skin. When Spot sheds, these allergy-causing dander are released into the air.

Does this mean a hairless dog won’t make you sneeze or itch your eyes? Not necessarily, because she might still have a little scab – or she likes to lick you! Each individual’s immune system determines their allergic reaction to Can f 1. Although you may be exposed to one breed, others will not be affected at all.

Most dogs shed because it is a normal way for them to shed old or damaged hair. But PetMD points out that some canine companions may do it more depending on the season or when they’re sick, stressed, or have allergies or skin irritations.

“Dog breeds that are associated with being ‘hypoallergenic’ are typically those with single-layer coats and less hair loss”. “Dog breeds with double coats, such as retrievers, Siberian huskies and collies, among others, have protective double coats that often shed a lot.”

He helped us compile a list of popular and uncommon AKC-registered dog breeds, including small dogs that don’t shed much.
