Virgil Abloh has teamed up with Mercedes-Benz to create a solar-powered Maybach

The passing of Virgil Abloh last week was quite a shock to fans, businesses and brands alike. One wonders whether Off-White or Louis Vuitton menswear would be the same without the presence of the modernist designer who has helped him stand out over the past decade. Abloh had to leave the dry and luxurious world of streetwear. However, fans will get a glimpse of the late designers’ final collaboration thanks to Mercedes-Benz’s Project MAYBACH launch. It’s a collaboration between the famous designer and the German luxury carmaker along with Daimler’s Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener to create a sleek-looking all-electric vehicle.

"""" Thanks to the designers having complete artistic freedom in this work, the result is awe-inspiring and certainly unlike anything Mercedes-Benz has developed. It takes a second to guess that this tourer is heavily inspired by the great outdoors with its sheer size, sharp lines and edges etc. The first thing that catches your eye about the off-road coupe This unique electric two-seater features an unusual choice of clay-colored exterior. The two-tone black and brown paint color makes the car look extremely natural. Under the front hood sits a solar panel to collect additional energy and charge the battery.

"""" The presence of a roof rack further enhances the functionality of storing bicycles or outdoor equipment for the festive season. Inside, the car looks extremely elegant with luxurious leather seats. The extremely long vehicle measuring nearly 6 meters (20 feet) in length comes with seats that fold completely flat, giving owners the opportunity to lie 40 winks in the most comfort in the wild. With the support of the Abloh family, the most interesting show car, Project MAYBACH, will be displayed to the public at the Rubell Museum. Students from local design schools also have the opportunity to exclusively tour the museum to pay homage to the designer’s legacy of supporting young talent.

"""" Designboom shares the Mercedes-Benz team’s thoughts on the news of the designer’s death: ‘Mercedes-Benz is very sad to hear of Virgil Abloh’s death. Our sincere thoughts go out to Virgil’s family and team. Now that we are opening up Virgil’s world of collaboration and unique vision to the public, we want to celebrate the work of a truly unique design talent who created the possibilities of endless collaboration. through his unlimited imagination and inspire all who know his work.’
