The 2026 Shelby Mustang GT500 may look like a super snake

This HotCars Exclusive Render imagines the fearsome Shelby Super Snake on the S650 Mustang, giving us a peek at the future ultimate Mustang.

Whenever you see the Shelby badge, you know you’re in for something special. So special that upgraded Mustangs were simply badged Shelby, completely eliminating Ford . And perhaps the rarest of them all is the 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 Super Snake. In this HotCars exclusive rendering, digital artist Timothy Adry Emmanuel brings it back – but as a generation Super Snake next.

The current Shelby Super Snake is based on the sixth-generation S550 Ford Mustang, turning it into an 825-horsepower rocket. But we all know the next generation 2024 Ford Mustang or S650 Mustang is even superior, at least on par with the Mustang Dark Horse. Perhaps there will be an S650 Shelby on the horizon as the 2026 Shelby Mustang GT500. And now this S650 Super Snake is here to really whet your appetite for the high-performance, running muscle car What will Shelby’s track look like?

Many Mustang fans were a bit surprised when Ford decided to discontinue the sixth generation Shelby Mustang GT500 and no longer have a 2023 Shelby GT500. But rest assured, the Shelby GT500 will return along with the upcoming S650 Mustang. And perhaps worse than ever.

The first one will likely appear in 2025 as the 2026 Shelby Mustang GT500, which is a pretty exciting prospect to look forward to. This rendering makes the wait even more bearable, dressing the S650 in a menacing Super Snake look with a fairly close version of the surrounding Shelby-designed parts.

Indispensable is the hood with two nostrils that make it look like a cobra about to attack. Or the driving lights placed in the signature grille giving it a square look, don’t mess with me. This S650 Super Snake render also gets the full wide bodywork, side-exit exhausts and it brings back the original ’67 GT500 body side air intakes. At least two of them, that is. There’s no room on the S650’s C-pillar for a top-mounted air intake, but we consider it a job well done nonetheless with the way the roof lines the aggressive rear end. If you saw a bit of Eleanor, the Shelby GT500 made famous in Gone in 60 Seconds, we wouldn’t blame you.

Of course, the modern styling on Eleanor’s Halibrand wheels is impressive and plays a big part in that. But it’s also the average gunmetal paint job this render wears, with Eleanoray-style racing stripes

How much does a 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 Super Snake cost?

The original ’67 GT500 Super Snake was the only prototype built for Shelby to showcase the Goodyear Thunderbolt tires for which he was a dealer. The fact that there is only one makes it one of the rarest American cars ever. But its rarity and history also make it the most expensive Mustang ever. The original car was sold for a record price of 2.2 million USD!

Not long ago, Shelby decided to bring back the classic Super Snake. Only 10 units will be produced and each is priced at $249,995. Built on original 1967 Ford Mustangs, the remakes also carry Carroll Shelby’s signature and serial numbers from the official Shelby registry to make them as authentic as possible.

But we say, bring back the modern Super Snake. Especially bring along the 2026 Shelby Mustang GT500 Super Snake. We’re ready and waiting to have our minds blown by another Shelby when it comes to the show.
