New York Fashion Week’s Spring 2024 season is as exciting as ever thanks to star-studded front rows, innovative runway collections, and awe-inspiring beauty looks — especially when it comes to nails.
As always, there were bold colors done beautifully, like glossy red at Proenza Schouler, ballet pink at Ulla Johnson and ebony at Rachel Comey. There’s also a popular maximalist approach to manicures, with many models wearing press-ins and extensions when it’s their turn on the runway. For example, The Blonds took inspiration from cultural icons like Cher, David Bowie, and Britney Spears to create sparkly spikes. Adeam relied on a bit of trompe-l’œil action and applied literal rays of light to the ballerina-shaped acrylic panels, making them “seem” to sparkle in real time.
Meanwhile, Sandy Liang’s manicure was inspired by the sea, translated into a pearly base and rhinestones adorning the nails and trailing along the model’s fingers, as if imitating a barnacle. (beautiful).Helmut Lang and Kate Spade New York, on the other hand, went for a more graphic approach and applied pop-art letters and patterns to their nails.
